Naming China as a “bully,” a top American official has voiced worry over the “Chinese aggression” against India. Further, he asked Beijing to “regard norms” and use diplomacy. Also, China should use the existing system to determine its outskirts stalemate with India. Congressman Eliot Engel, Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, said that he is concerned about the ongoing border dispute between India and China at the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
China stepped back at the end of the Dokhlam stand-off. China tends to bully its neighbors rather than focussing on resolving the issue following International Law. It is also one of the instances when China is demonstrating its bullying tendencies.
The comments from Eliot Engel is the result of the present stand-off between the Indian and Chinese Militaries at LAC. Further, he said that countries all over the world should follow the fixed set of rules. Following the fixed set of rules, will not make us live in a world where ‘might is right.’ China should follow the Internationa Convention for peacefully resolving the border issue, he urged.
Response From Chinese Foreign Ministry
Zhao Lijian, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, said that the overall situation on the border areas is under control and stable. We can resolve the issue through the established communication channels, and the consultation will resolve the issue, he added.
Zhao Lijian was responding to the recent statement made by Rajnath Singh. Rajnath Singh recently made the statement that India will not its ‘pride hurt’. Singh made the statement in response to the recent flare-up between the armies at the border. However, Rajnath is focussing on resolving the dispute through bilateral negotiations with giant neighbor China.
The border dispute between India and China involves the 3,488 km-long Line of Actual Control (LAC). Further, the Chinese Government is claiming Arunachal Pradesh as a part of the Southern Tibet Territory. Both countries are focussing on the final resolution of the boundaries which are pending. And both belief in resolving it peacefully.
