Kerala Class X Girl Ends Life Allegedly Over Lack Of Access To Online Classes

A Class X student ended her life in Valanchery, Malappuram district in Kerala. She committed suicide on June 1. The alleged reason for suicide because of not having access to Online classes. The girl was 15 years old. Further, the girl was missing since Monday. Her charred body was found near an unoccupied house in the locality at around 6 PM.

The Police in the late-night confirmed that the girl committed suicide due to the non-accessibility to the online classes. She committed suicide due on the first day of the reopening of school. The parents of the girl told the authorities that the girl was upset because of the non-availability of the phone. And the Television set was not working correctly.

She belonged to a low-income family. Her father is a daily wage laborer. He did not have a job for the last two months due to the nationwide lockdown imposed due to Coronavirus Pandemic. The neighbors and her classmates told them that she was a very brilliant student. The photo in which she is receiving the award for the academic performance is hanging over the wall of her house.

Abdul Kareem, District Police Chief, and Sayed Abid Husain Thangal, MLA, visited the area where her body was found. Further, Police assured that they are going to investigate the case thoroughly. For post mortem, the body was shifted to the Government Medical, Manjeri. After the incident, the Kerala Students Union started the protest against the Deputy Director of Education (DDE) office at Malappuram to stop online classes until the facility is available to all the students. According to DDE K.S. Kusumam, 64, 000 students in the state do not have access to facilities for Online Classes.
