Booker Prize-winning author Hilary Mantel Died, Cause of Death

Hilary Mantel, who was a British writer died on 22 September 2022 a the age of 70 in a hospital in Exeter. She died from complications of a stroke that had occurred three days earlier.

HarperCollins UK said on its Twitter account, “We are heartbroken at the death of our beloved author, Dame Hilary Mantel, and our thoughts are with her friends and family, especially her husband, Gerald. This is a devastating loss and we can only be grateful she left us with such a magnificent body of work”.

Who is Hilary Mantel?

She was a British writer. And she also worked in historical fiction, personal memoirs, and short stories. In 1985, her first novel “Every Day is Mother’s Day” was published. She wrote 12 novels, two collections of short stories, a personal memoir, numerous articles, and opinion pieces.

Hilary won two times Booker Prizes the first was in 2009 for the novel Wolf Hall and the second was for the sequel Bring Up the Bodies in 2012 Thomas Cromwell’s rise to power in the court of Henry VIII. The third installment of the Cromwell trilogy, The Mirror & the Light, was longlisted for the same prize.
